  1. For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

  2. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

  3. But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

  4. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

  5. Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

  6. Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  7. Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

  8. Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

  9. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

  10. Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

  11. When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

  12. In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

  13. Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,

  14. And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

  15. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

  16. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

  17. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

  18. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

  19. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

  20. By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

  21. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

  22. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

  23. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

  24. ¶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

  25. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
