  1. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

  2. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

  3. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

  4. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

  5. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

  6. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

  7. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

  8. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

  9. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

  10. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

  11. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

  12. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

  13. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

  14. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

  15. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

  16. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

  17. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

  18. For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

  19. Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

  20. ¶ For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

  21. To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

  22. Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

  23. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

  24. And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

  25. But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
