  1. Secret things to the Lord our God: things that are manifest, to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

  2. Hast thou heard God's counsel, and shall his wisdom be inferior to thee?

  3. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

  8. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

  9. And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables:

  10. To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see and hearing may not understand.

  11. The Spirit breatheth where he will and thou hearest his voice: but thou knowest not whence he cometh and whither he goeth. So is every one that is born of the Spirit.

  12. Nicodemus answered and said to him: How can these things be done?

  13. Jesus answered and said to him: Art thou a master in Israel, and knowest not these things?

  14. Amen, amen, I say to thee that we speak what we know and we testify what we have seen: and you receive not our testimony.

  15. If I have spoken to you earthly things, and you believe not: how will you believe, if I shall speak to you heavenly things?

  16. Now to him that is able to establish you, according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret from eternity;

  17. (Which now is made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the precept of the eternal God, for the obedience of faith) known among all nations:

  18. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, a wisdom which is hidden, which God ordained before the world, unto our glory:

  19. Which none of the princes of this world knew. For if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory.

  20. But, as it is written: That eye hath not seen, nor ear heard: neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him.

  21. But to us God hath revealed them by his Spirit. For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

  22. Having therefore such hope, we use much confidence.

  23. And not as Moses put a veil upon his face, that the children of Israel might not steadfastly look on the face of that which is made void.

  24. But their senses were made dull. For, until this present day, the selfsame veil, in the reading of the old testament, remaineth not taken away (because in Christ it is made void).

  25. But even until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.
