  1. Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God. For it is not subject to the law of God: neither can it be.

  2. And they who are in the flesh cannot please God.

  3. I wrote to you in an epistle, not to keep company with fornicators.

  4. I mean not with the fornicators of this world or with the covetous or the extortioners or the servers of idols: otherwise you must needs go out of this world.

  5. And such confidence we have, through Christ, towards God.

  6. Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God.

  9. Now the works of the flesh are manifest: which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

  10. Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

  11. Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

  12. And you, when you were dead in your offences and sins,

  13. Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of this air, of the spirit that now worketh on the children of unbelief:

  14. In which also we all conversed in time past, in the desires of our flesh, fulfilling the will of the flesh and of our thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:

  15. For which cause be mindful that you, being heretofore gentiles is the flesh, who are called uncircumcision by that which is called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands:

  16. That you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the conversation of Israel and strangers to the testament, having no hope of the promise and without God in this world.

  17. This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind:

  18. Having their understanding darkened: being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts.

  19. Who despairing have given themselves up to lasciviousness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto covetousness.
