  1. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Isra'el, whom the Egyptians are keeping in slavery; and I have remembered my covenant.

  2. If you do abuse them in any way, and they cry to me, I will certainly heed their cry.

  3. because it is his only garment - he needs it to wrap his body; what else does he have in which to sleep? Moreover, if he cries out to me, I will listen; because I am compassionate.

  7. But my face," he continued, "you cannot see, because a human being cannot look at me and remain alive.

  8. For what great nation is there that has God as close to them as ADONAI our God is, whenever we call on him?

  9. However, from there you will seek ADONAI your God; and you will find him if you search after him with all your heart and being.

  10. In your distress, when all these things have come upon you, in the acharit-hayamim, you will return to ADONAI your God and listen to what he says;

  11. for ADONAI your God is a merciful God. He will not fail you, destroy you, or forget the covenant with your ancestors which he swore to them.

  12. Then Shlomo stood before the altar of ADONAI in the presence of the whole community of Isra'el, spread out his hands toward heaven,

  13. For you made a distinction between them and all the peoples of the earth by making them your inheritance, as you said through Moshe your servant when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Adonai ELOHIM."

  14. "As for you, Shlomo my son, know the God of your father. Serve him wholeheartedly and with desire in your being; for ADONAI searches all hearts and understands all the inclinations of people's thoughts. If you seek him, he will let himself be found by you; but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

  15. If I shut up the sky, so that there is no rain; or if I order locusts to devour the land; or if I send an epidemic of sickness among my people;

  16. then, if my people, who bear my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.

  17. Now my eyes will be open and my ears will pay attention to the prayer made in this place.

  18. "If you will earnestly seek God and plead for Shaddai's favor,

  19. if you are pure and upright; then he will rouse himself for you and fulfill your needs.

  20. "Anyone who calls on God, and he answers him, becomes a laughingstock to his friends -they make fun of an innocent, blameless man.

  21. you will entreat him, and he will hear you, and you will pay what you vowed;

  22. He prays to God and is accepted by him, so that he sees [God's] face with joy, and [God] repays the man for his righteousness.

  23. Those who know your name put their trust in you, for you have not abandoned those who seek you, ADONAI.

  24. For the avenger of blood remembers them, he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted:

  25. ADONAI, you have heard what the humble want; you encourage them and listen to them,
