  1. All the people experienced the thunder, the lightning, the sound of the shofar, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled. Standing at a distance,

  2. they said to Moshe, "You, speak with us; and we will listen. But don't let God speak with us, or we will die."

  3. Moshe answered the people, "Don't be afraid, because God has come only to test you and make you fear him, so that you won't commit sins."

  4. You are to fear ADONAI your God, serve him, cling to him and swear by his name.

  5. He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things, which you have seen with your own eyes.

  12. On that day a man will take hold of his idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship, and fling them away to the moles and bats!

  20. Also we have come to know and trust the love that God has for us. God is love; and those who remain in this love remain united with God, and God remains united with them.

  21. Here is how love has been brought to maturity with us: as the Messiah is, so are we in the world. This gives us confidence for the Day of Judgment.

  22. There is no fear in love. On the contrary, love that has achieved its goal gets rid of fear, because fear has to do with punishment; the person who keeps fearing has not been brought to maturity in regard to love.
