  1. And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place, so that the dry land may appear.” And it was so.

  2. God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

  3. Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; let the fish of the sea inform you.

  4. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

  5. The miner strikes the flint; he overturns mountains at their base.

  6. He hews out channels in the rocks, and his eyes spot every treasure.

  7. He stops up the sources of the streams to bring what is hidden to light.

  8. The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell therein.

  9. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

  10. He set the earth on its foundations, never to be moved.

  11. You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

  12. At Your rebuke the waters fled; at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away—

  13. the mountains rose and the valleys sank to the place You assigned for them—

  14. You set a boundary they cannot cross, that they may never again cover the earth.

  15. He sends forth springs in the valleys; they flow between the mountains.

  16. They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

  17. The birds of the air nest beside the springs; they sing among the branches.

  18. He waters the mountains from His chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of His works.

  19. But they deliberately overlook the fact that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

  20. through which the world of that time perished in the flood.

  21. And by that same word, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
