  1. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it) and jumped into the sea.

  9. Truly, truly, I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”

  10. Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. And after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.”

  11. Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. He was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper to ask, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

  12. When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

  13. Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You follow Me!”

  14. Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. However, Jesus did not say that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you?”

  15. There are many more things that Jesus did. If all of them were written down, I suppose that not even the world itself would have space for the books that would be written.

  16. In my first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach,

  17. until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.

  18. After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

  19. And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss.

  20. So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

  21. Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.

  22. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  23. After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

  24. They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.

  25. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”
