  1. Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

  2. And the near kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: take thou my right of redemption on thee; for I cannot redeem it.

  10. In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honoreth them that fear Jehovah; He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;

  11. He that pleadeth his cause first seemeth just; But his neighbor cometh and searcheth him out.

  12. and I will take unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

  13. And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said Jehovah unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

  14. And I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel mine uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

  15. And I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

  16. So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, according to the law and custom, and that which was open:

  17. and I delivered the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel mine uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the guard.

  18. And thou hast said unto me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy thee the field for money, and call witnesses; whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

  19. Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the deeds, and seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill-country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith Jehovah.

  20. But if he hear thee not, take with thee one or two more, that at the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may be established.

  21. Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told unto the chief priests all the things that were come to pass.

  22. And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers,

  23. saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

  24. And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care.

  25. So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continueth until this day.
