  1. Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

  2. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaüs a proselyte of Antioch;

  3. whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them.

  4. And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.

  8. And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council,

  9. and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against this holy place, and the law:

  10. for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered unto us.

  11. And all that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  12. Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

  13. But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

  14. and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

  15. But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;

  16. and they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

  17. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon the Lord, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

  18. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

  19. And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.

  20. And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.

  21. and when the blood of Stephen thy witness was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting, and keeping the garments of them that slew him.
