  1. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; Forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house:

  12. Israel was holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him shall be held guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah.

  13. And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

  14. This is the great and first commandment.

  15. Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one:

  16. and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.

  17. And the scribe said unto him, Of a truth, Teacher, thou hast well said that he is one; and there is none other but he:

  18. and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is much more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

  19. But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?

  20. My little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.

  21. And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him.

  22. Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world.

  23. There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.

  24. We love, because he first loved us.

  25. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen.
