The Divided Kingdom
The kingdom splits into Israel and Judah; prophets warn of judgment as both nations slowly drift into idolatry and exile.
- 2 Chronicles 16:11c. 955 BC
And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
- 2 Chronicles 16:12c. 916 BC
And in the thirty and ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to Jehovah, but to the physicians.
- 2 Chronicles 16:13c. 914 BC
And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
- 2 Chronicles 16:14c. 914 BC
And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.
And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baalim,
but sought to the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
- 2 Chronicles 17:5c. 913 BC
Therefore Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat tribute; and he had riches and honor in abundance.
- 2 Chronicles 17:6c. 913 BC
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of Jehovah: and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.
- 2 Chronicles 17:7c. 912 BC
Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;
- 2 Chronicles 17:8c. 912 BC
and with them the Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
- 2 Chronicles 17:9c. 912 BC
And they taught in Judah, having the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.
- 2 Chronicles 17:10c. 912 BC
And the fear of Jehovah fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
- 2 Chronicles 17:11c. 912 BC
And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and silver for tribute; the Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.
- 2 Chronicles 17:12c. 912 BC
And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles and cities of store.
- 2 Chronicles 17:13c. 912 BC
And he had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.
- 2 Chronicles 17:14c. 912 BC
And this was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: Of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand;
- 2 Chronicles 17:15c. 912 BC
and next to him Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand;
- 2 Chronicles 17:16c. 912 BC
and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
- 2 Chronicles 17:17c. 912 BC
And of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;
- 2 Chronicles 17:18c. 912 BC
and next to him Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for war.
- 2 Chronicles 17:19c. 912 BC
These were they that waited on the king, besides those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
- 2 Chronicles 18:1c. 897 BC
Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.
- 2 Chronicles 18:2c. 897 BC
And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that were with him, and moved him to go up with him to Ramoth-gilead.
