  1. That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his coat about him (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea.

  9. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

  10. Now this he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

  11. Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?

  12. Peter therefore seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

  13. Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

  14. This saying therefore went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, that he should not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

  15. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that should be written.

  16. The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

  17. until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

  18. to whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:

  19. and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:

  20. They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

  21. And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within his own authority.

  22. But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

  23. And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

  24. And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold two men stood by them in white apparel;

  25. who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.
