  1. Moses said to them, “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before the LORD to the war,

  2. and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,

  3. and the land is subdued before the LORD; then afterward you shall return, and be guiltless towards the LORD, and towards Israel; and this land shall be to you for a possession before the LORD.

  4. You shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatever is right in his own eyes;

  5. for you haven’t yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD your God gives you.

  6. But when you go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God causes you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you dwell in safety;

  7. then it shall happen that to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to the LORD.

  8. When the LORD your God cuts off the nations from before you, where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them, and dwell in their land;

  9. be careful that you are not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before you; and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”

  10. You shall not do so to the LORD your God; for every abomination to the LORD, which he hates, have they done to their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

  11. When you have come into the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of those nations.

  12. There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

  13. or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

  14. For whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. Because of these abominations, the LORD your God drives them out from before you.

  15. You shall be perfect with the LORD your God.

  16. For these nations that you shall dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you so to do.

  17. The LORD will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you will not understand;

  18. a nation of fierce facial expressions, that doesn’t respect the elderly, nor show favor to the young,

  19. and they will eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed. They also won’t leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.

  20. They will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. They will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.

  21. The eternal God is your dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, ‘Destroy!’

  22. Israel dwells in safety; the fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of grain and new wine. Yes, his heavens drop down dew.

  23. You are happy, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, the sword of your excellency? Your enemies will submit themselves to you. You will tread on their high places.”

  24. and she said to the men, “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

  25. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Sea of Suf before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
