  1. Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

  2. Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.

  3. How can I myself alone bear your problems, your burdens, and your strife?

  4. Take wise men of understanding and well known according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

  5. You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”

  6. So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.

  7. I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.

  8. You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

  9. You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

  10. You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

  11. You shall follow that which is altogether just, that you may live, and inherit the land which the LORD your God gives you.

  12. If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates; then you shall arise, and go up to the place which the LORD your God chooses.

  13. You shall come to the priests who are Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall inquire, and they shall give you the verdict.

  14. You shall do according to the decisions of the verdict which they shall give you from that place which the LORD chooses. You shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach you:

  15. according to the decisions of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the sentence which they shall show you, to the right hand, nor to the left.

  16. If an unrighteous witness rises up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,

  17. then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

  18. and the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother;

  19. then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother. So you shall remove the evil from your midst.

  20. If there is a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and the judges judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

  21. It shall be, if the wicked man is worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number.

  22. He may sentence him to no more than forty stripes. He shall not give more; lest, if he should give more, and beat him more than that many stripes, then your brother will be degraded in your sight.

  23. Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.

  24. The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.

  25. The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.
