  1. Behold, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”

  2. You came near to me, everyone of you, and said, “Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”

  3. The thing pleased me well. I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe.

  4. They turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

  5. They took some of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which the LORD our God gives to us.”

  6. Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God.

  7. You murmured in your tents, and said, “Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

  8. Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there!’”

  9. Then I said to you, “Don’t dread, neither be afraid of them.

  10. The LORD your God who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

  11. and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that the LORD your God bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

  12. If you shall say in your heart, “These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?”

  13. you shall not be afraid of them. You shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt;

  14. the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

  15. Moreover the LORD your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you.

  16. You shall not be scared of them; for the LORD your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.

  17. Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

  18. Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.

  19. The LORD himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.”

  20. No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

  21. “Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

  22. Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

  23. This scroll of the Torah shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

  24. Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

  25. The LORD looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Haven’t I sent you?”
