Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

¶ A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.

¶ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

¶ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

¶ A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

¶ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

¶ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

¶ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

¶ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

¶ O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
