  1. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

  2. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

  3. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

  4. That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

  5. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

  6. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

  7. That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

  8. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

  9. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

  10. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

  11. ¶ Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

  12. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  13. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

  14. ¶ Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

  15. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

  16. For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

  17. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

  18. But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

  19. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

  20. For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

  21. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

  22. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

  23. And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

  24. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

  25. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
