  1. Who answering, said to then: Elias, when he shall come first, shall restore all things; and as it is written of the Son of man that he must suffer many things and be despised.

  2. But I say to you that Elias also is come (and they have done to him whatsoever they would), as it is written of him.

  7. In truth I say to You, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth.

  8. And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman.

  9. By some that John was risen from the dead: but by other some, that Elias had appeared: and by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.

  10. But they answered and said: John the Baptist; but some say Elias: and others say that one of the former prophets is risen again.

  11. And behold two men were talking with him. And they were Moses and Elias,

  12. And it came to pass that, as they were departing from him, Peter saith to Jesus: Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses; and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

  13. And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?

  14. And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No.

  15. And they asked him and said to him: Why then dost thou baptize, if thou be not Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?

  16. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Know you not what the scripture saith of Elias, how he calleth on God against Israel?

  17. Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that it might not rain upon the earth. And it rained not for three years and six months.
