  1. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loincloths.

  2. They heard the voice of Adonai, God, walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, so the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Adonai, God, among the trees in the garden.

  3. Adonai, God, called to the man, “Where are you?”

  4. He answered, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself.”

  5. He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I ordered you not to eat?”

  6. Adonai said to Kayin, “Where is Hevel your brother?” And he replied, “I don’t know; am I my brother’s guardian?”

  7. He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!

  8. Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood at your hands.

  9. For he keeps watch on a person's ways; he sees his every step.

  10. There is no darkness, no death-like gloom, where wrongdoers can hide;

  11. because you yourselves well know that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

  12. When people are saying, “Everything is so peaceful and secure,” then destruction will suddenly come upon them, the way labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there is no way they will escape.

  13. For if the word God spoke through angels became binding, so that every violation and act of disobedience received its just deserts in full measure,

  14. then how will we escape if we ignore such a great deliverance? This deliverance, which was first declared by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him;

  15. See that you don’t reject the One speaking! For if those did not escape who rejected him when he gave divine warning on earth, think how much less we will escape if we turn away from him when he warns from heaven.

  16. Even then, his voice shook the earth; but now, he has made this promise: “One more time I will shake not only the earth, but heaven too!”

  17. Then the earth’s kings, the rulers, the generals, the rich and the mighty — indeed, everyone, slave and free — hid himself in caves and among the rocks in the mountains,

  18. and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of the One sitting on the throne and from the fury of the Lamb!

  19. For the Great Day of their fury has come, and who can stand?”
