  1. If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ he will answer, ‘These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.’

  9. The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

  10. But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

  11. Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple.

  12. “If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

  13. Jesus replied, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

  14. Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

  15. “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.”

  16. “Away from Me, Satan!” Jesus declared. “For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

  17. Then the devil left Him, and angels came and ministered to Him.

  18. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

  19. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!”

  20. And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.

  21. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

  22. But beware of men; for they will hand you over to their councils and flog you in their synagogues.

  23. On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

  24. But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say.

  25. For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
