  1. you are to present to the LORD the firstborn male of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the LORD.

  6. You must not hold back offerings from your granaries or vats. You are to give Me the firstborn of your sons.

  7. You shall do likewise with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to Me.

  8. The first offspring of every womb belongs to Me, including all the firstborn males among your livestock, whether cattle or sheep.

  9. You must redeem the firstborn of a donkey with a lamb; but if you do not redeem it, you are to break its neck. You must redeem all the firstborn of your sons. No one shall appear before Me empty-handed.

  10. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Number every firstborn male of the Israelites a month old or more, and list their names.

  11. You are to take the Levites for Me—I am the LORD—in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of the Israelites.”

  12. So Moses numbered all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded him.

  13. The total number of the firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273.

  14. Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

  15. “Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites belong to Me; I am the LORD.

  16. To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who outnumber the Levites,

  17. you are to collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel of twenty gerahs.

  18. Give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for the excess among the Israelites.”

  19. So Moses collected the redemption money from those in excess of the number redeemed by the Levites.

  20. He collected the money from the firstborn of the Israelites: 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel.

  21. And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons in obedience to the word of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.

  22. For the Levites have been wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself in place of all who come first from the womb, the firstborn of all the sons of Israel.

  23. For every firstborn male in Israel is Mine, both man and beast. I set them apart for Myself on the day I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt.

  24. But I have taken the Levites in place of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel.

  25. The firstborn of every womb, whether man or beast, that is offered to the LORD belongs to you. But you must surely redeem every firstborn son and every firstborn male of unclean animals.
