  1. I have overthrown cities among you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

  2. Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel; and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

  3. I have cut off nations; their battlements are desolate; I have made their streets waste, so that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.

  7. But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

  8. Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which Jehovah of hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets: therefore there came great wrath from Jehovah of hosts.

  9. Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

  10. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

  11. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

  12. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

  13. Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.

  15. Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

  16. if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,

  17. and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly;

  18. And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication.

  19. Behold, I cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of her works.

  20. standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
