Bible Verses About The Afflictions of the Wicked

I destroyed some of you, as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha, and you were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet you returned not to me, saith the Lord.

Therefore I will do these things to thee, O Israel: and after I shall have done these things to thee, be prepared to meet thy God, O Israel.

I have destroyed the nations, and their towers are beaten down: I have made their ways desert, so that there is none that passeth by: their cities are desolate, there is not a man remaining, nor any inhabitant.

I said: Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive correction: and her dwelling shall not perish, for all things wherein I have visited her: but they rose early, and corrupted all their thoughts.

When you went to a heap of twenty bushels, and they became ten: and you went into the press, to press out fifty vessels, and they became twenty.

For behold, I lift up my hand upon them, and they shall be a prey to those that served them: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts sent me.

But they would not hearken, and they turned away the shoulder to depart: and they stopped their ears, not to hear.

And they made their heart as the adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts sent in his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: so a great indignation came from Lord of hosts.

But with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the desert.

Now these things were done in a figure of us, that we should not covet evil things, as they also coveted.

Neither become ye idolaters, as some of them, as it is written: The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them that committed fornication: and there fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted and perished by the serpent.

Neither do you murmur, as some of them murmured and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Now all these things happened to them in figure: and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Seeing it is a just thing with God to repay tribulation to them that trouble you:

And reducing the cities of the Sodomites and of the Gomorrhites into ashes, condemned them to be overthrown, making them an example to those that should after act wickedly,

And I gave her a time that she might do penance: and she will not repent of her fornication.

Behold, I will cast her into a bed: and they that commit adultery with her shall be in very great tribulation, except they do penance from their deeds,

Standing afar off for fear of her torments, saying: Alas! alas! that great city, Babylon, that mighty city: for in one hour is thy judgment come.
