  1. But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, And they shall have no way to flee; And their hope shall be the giving up of the ghost.

  2. These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself: ButI will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

  3. God will hear, and answer them, Even he that abideth of old, [Selah The menwho have no changes, And who fear not God.

  4. Because I have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;

  5. But ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:

  6. I also will laugh inthe day ofyour calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

  7. When your fear cometh as a storm, And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you.

  8. Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

  9. For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah,

  10. They would none of my counsel, They despised all my reproof.

  11. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

  12. Thoughhandjoinin hand, the evil man shall not be unpunished; But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

  13. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to Jehovah: Thoughhandjoinin hand, he shall not be unpunished.

  14. He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

  15. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

  16. Though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and prolong his days, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, that fear before him:

  17. but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

  18. Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry unto me, but I will not hearken unto them.

  19. Then said Jehovah unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

  20. And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ye shall surely drink.

  21. For, lo, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts.

  22. They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be as an unclean thing; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of Jehovah: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels; because it hath been the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

  23. And flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;

  24. neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself;

  25. and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.
