  1. Reuben, thou art my first-born, my might, and the beginning of my strength; The pre-eminence of dignity, and the pre-eminence of power.

  2. Boiling over as water, thou shalt not have the pre-eminence; Because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; Then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.

  7. Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you.

  8. Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat Jehovah your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

  9. And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated Jehovah.

  10. And Jehovah turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.

  11. But Jehovah hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.

  12. they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it, and said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

  13. And Jehovah said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

  14. now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

  15. Then believed they his words; They sang his praise.

  16. They soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel,

  17. My son, fear thou Jehovah and the king; And company not with them that are given to change:

  18. For their calamity shall rise suddenly; And the destruction from them both, who knoweth it?

  19. O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that goeth early away.

  20. Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

  21. And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

  22. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

  23. And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;

  24. yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

  25. The sower soweth the word.
