  1. You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”

  2. My son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,

  3. for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

  4. For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:

  5. but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

  6. So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

  7. Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.

  8. She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:

  9. “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

  10. Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

  11. Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

  12. but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

  13. I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;

  14. when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.

  15. Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

  16. because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD.

  17. They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

  18. Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

  19. For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

  20. You shall tell them, Thus says the LORD: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

  21. to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you, even rising up early and sending them, but you have not listened;

  22. then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

  23. Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law, and the words which the LORD of Hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from the LORD of Hosts.

  24. It has come to pass that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen,” said the LORD of Hosts;

  25. “but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant land desolate.”
