  1. ¶ Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

  12. Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

  13. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

  15. And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

  16. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

  17. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

  18. And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

  19. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

  20. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

  21. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

  22. ¶ Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

  23. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

  24. We love him, because he first loved us.

  25. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
