  1. Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

  2. Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

  3. But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

  4. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

  5. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

  6. Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

  7. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

  8. Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

  9. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

  10. ¶ Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

  11. And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

  12. And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

  13. An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

  14. Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

  15. Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

  16. Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

  17. For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

  18. For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

  19. Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

  20. And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

  21. For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

  22. But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

  23. ¶ Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

  24. Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

  25. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
