  1. But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

  2. ¶ Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

  13. When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

  14. ¶ Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

  15. ¶ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

  16. ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

  17. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

  18. Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

  19. And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

  20. And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

  21. ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

  22. The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

  23. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

  24. Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

  25. Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
