  1. For thou art an holy people vnto the Lord thy God, the Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be a precious people vnto himselfe, aboue all people that are vpon the earth.

  2. The Lord did not set his loue vpon you, nor chose you, because ye were more in number then any people: for ye were the fewest of all people:

  3. But because the Lord loued you, and because hee would keepe the othe which hee had sworne vnto your fathers, the Lord hath brought you out by a mightie hand, and deliuered you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt,

  4. That thou mayest knowe, that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithfull God which keepeth couenant and mercie vnto them that loue him and keepe his commandements, euen to a thousand generations,

  5. Speake not thou in thine heart (after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out before thee) saying, For my righteousnesse the Lord hath brought me in, to possesse this land: but for the wickednesse of these nations the Lord hath cast them out before thee.

  6. For thou entrest not to inherite their lande for thy righteousnesse, or for thy vpright heart: but for the wickednesse of those nations, the Lord thy God doth cast them out before thee, and that he might performe the worde which the Lord thy God sware vnto thy fathers, Abraham, Izhak, and Iacob.

  7. Vnderstand therefore, that ye Lord thy God giueth thee not this good land to possesse it for thy righteousnes: for thou art a stifnecked people.

  8. May a man be profitable vnto God, as he that is wise, may be profitable to himselfe?

  9. Is it any thing vnto the Almightie, that thou art righteous? or is it profitable to him, that thou makest thy wayes vpright?

  10. If the Lord had not holpen me, my soule had almost dwelt in silence.

  11. When I said, My foote slideth, thy mercy, O Lord, stayed me.

  12. In the multitude of my thoughts in mine heart, thy comfortes haue reioyced my soule.

  13. Then there came againe, and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,

  14. And said, O man, greatly beloued, feare not: peace be vnto thee: be strong and of good courage. And when he had spoken vnto me, I was strengthened, and saide, Let my Lord speake: for thou hast strengthened me.

  15. No man can come to mee, except the Father, which hath sent mee, drawe him: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

  16. It is written in the Prophetes, And they shalbe al taught of God. Euery man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, commeth vnto me:

  17. And nowe am I no more in the world, but these are in the worlde, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keepe them in thy Name, euen them whome thou hast giuen mee, that they may bee one, as we are.

  18. While I was with them in the worlde, I kept them in thy Name: those that thou gauest me, haue I kept, and none of them is lost, but the childe of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

  19. And nowe, O Lord, beholde their threatnings, and graunt vnto thy seruants with all boldnesse to speake thy word,

  20. So that thou stretch forth thine hand, that healing, and signes, and wonders may be done by the Name of thine holy Sonne Iesus.

  21. To wit, the righteousnesse of God by the faith of Iesus Christ, vnto all, and vpon all that beleeue.

  22. For there is no difference: for all haue sinned, and are depriued of the glorie of God,

  23. And are iustified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Iesus,

  24. For Christ, when we were yet of no strength, at his time died for the vngodly.

  25. Doutles one will scarce die for a righteous man: but yet for a good man it may be that one dare die.
