And it was said unto him: Know thou beforehand that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land not their own, and they shall bring them under bondage, and afflict them four hundred years.

But I will judge the nation which they shall serve, and after this they shall come out with great substance.

And let peoples serve thee, and tribes worship thee: be thou lord of thy brethren, and let thy mother's children bow down before thee. Cursed be he that curseth thee: and let him that blesseth thee be filled with blessings.

Isaac answered: I have appointed him thy lord, and have made all his brethren his servants: I have established him with corn and wine, and after this, what shall I do more for thee, my son?

Now therefore let the king provide a wise and industrious man, and make him ruler over the land of Egypt:

For the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have seen their affliction, wherewith they are oppressed by the Egyptians.

And when any controversy falleth out among them, they come to me to judge between them, and to shew the precepts of God, and his laws.

And to shew the people the ceremonies, and the manner of worshipping; and the way wherein they ought to walk, and the work that they ought to do.

And provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, in whom there is truth, and that hate avarice, and appoint of them rulers of thousands, and of hundreds, and of fifties, and of tens,

Who may judge the people at all times: and when any great matter soever shall fall out, let them refer it to thee, and let them judge the lesser matters only: that so it may be lighter for thee, the burden being shared out unto others.

Neither shalt thou favour a poor man in judgment.

Thou shalt not go aside in the poor man's judgment.

Thou shalt fly lying. The innocent and just person thou shalt not put to death: because I abhor the wicked.

Neither shalt thou take bribes, which even blind the wise, and pervert the words of the just.

Thou shalt not molest a stranger, for you know the hearts of strangers: for you also were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Thou shalt not do that which is unjust, nor judge unjustly. Respect not the person of the poor: nor honour the countenance of the mighty. But judge thy neighbour according to justice.

Let there be equal judgment among you, whether he be a stranger, or a native that offends: because I am the Lord your God.

May the Lord the God of the spirits of all flesh provide a man, that may be over this multitude:

And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd.

Let me have from among you wise and understanding men, and such whose conversation is approved among your tribes, that I may appoint them your rulers.

And I commanded them, saying: Hear them, and judge that which is just: whether he be one of your country, or a stranger.

There shall be no difference of persons, you shall hear the little as well as the great: neither shall you respect any man's person, because it is the judgment of God. And if any thing seem hard to you, refer it to me, and I will hear it.

Thou shalt appoint judges and magistrates in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, in all thy tribes: that they may judge the people with just judgment,

And not go aside to either part. Thou shalt not accept person nor gifts: for gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and change the words of the just.

Thou shalt follow justly after that which is just: that thou mayst live and possess the land, which the Lord thy God shall give thee.
