  1. But God chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise; God chose what the world considers weak in order to shame the strong;

  2. and God chose what the world looks down on as common or regards as nothing in order to bring to nothing what the world considers important;

  3. so that no one should boast before God.

  4. It is his doing that you are united with the Messiah Yeshua. He has become wisdom for us from God, and righteousness and holiness and redemption as well!

  5. Therefore — as the Tanakh says — “Let anyone who wants to boast, boast about Adonai.”

  6. Now in what I have said here, brothers, I have used myself and Apollos as examples to teach you not to go beyond what the Tanakh says, proudly taking the side of one leader against another.

  7. After all, what makes you so special? What do you have that you didn’t receive as a gift? And if in fact it was a gift, why do you boast as if it weren’t?

  8. We don’t dare class or compare ourselves with some of the people who advertise themselves. In measuring themselves against each other and comparing themselves with each other, they are simply stupid.

  9. We will not boast about what lies outside the area of work which God has given us; rather, we will boast within our assigned area, and that area does reach as far as you.

  10. We are not overextending our boasting as if we had not reached as far as you; for we did come all the way to you with the Good News of the Messiah.

  11. We do not boast about the area in which others labor; but our hope is that as your trust grows, we will be magnified in your midst in relation to our own area of work, so that we can go on to do even more,

  12. namely, to proclaim the Good News in regions beyond you. Our hope is not to boast about the work already done by someone else.

  13. So, let anyone who wants to boast, boast about Adonai;

  14. For you have been delivered by grace through trusting, and even this is not your accomplishment but God’s gift.

  15. You were not delivered by your own actions; therefore no one should boast.

  16. For we are of God’s making, created in union with the Messiah Yeshua for a life of good actions already prepared by God for us to do.
