  1. You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, because I am.

  2. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

  4. And masters, do the same for your slaves. Give up your use of threats, because you know that He who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with Him.

  5. Masters, supply your slaves with what is right and fair, since you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

  6. For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.”

  7. I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whose father I became while I was in chains.

  8. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.

  9. I am sending back to you him who is my very heart.

  10. I would have liked to keep him with me, so that on your behalf he could minister to me in my chains for the gospel.

  11. But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that your goodness will not be out of compulsion, but by your own free will.

  12. For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good—

  13. no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a beloved brother. He is especially beloved to me, but even more so to you, both in person and in the Lord.

  14. Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
