  1. Again the LORD said to Moses,

  2. “The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. You shall hold a sacred assembly and humble yourselves, and present an offering made by fire to the LORD.

  3. On this day you are not to do any work, for it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God.

  4. If anyone does not humble himself on this day, he must be cut off from his people.

  5. If you walk in hostility toward Me and refuse to obey Me, I will multiply your plagues seven times, according to your sins.

  6. I will send wild animals against you to rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie desolate.

  7. And if in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,

  8. then I will act with hostility toward you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins.

  9. because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself, saying, ‘I will have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my own heart.’ This will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.

  10. The LORD will never be willing to forgive him. Instead, His anger and jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse written in this book will fall upon him. The LORD will blot out his name from under heaven

  11. and single him out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law.

  12. God is a righteous judge and a God who feels indignation each day.

  13. If one does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has bent and strung His bow.

  14. He has prepared His deadly weapons; He ordains His arrows with fire.

  15. The wicked are estranged from the womb; the liars go astray from birth.

  16. Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like a cobra that shuts its ears,

  17. refusing to hear the tune of the charmer who skillfully weaves his spell.

  18. But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me.

  19. So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

  20. They despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His promise.

  21. They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of the LORD.

  22. because they rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.

  23. He humbled their hearts with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

  24. Because you refused my call, and no one took my outstretched hand,

  25. because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,
