  1. And Jacob had a dream about a ladder that rested on the earth with its top reaching up to heaven, and God’s angels were going up and down the ladder.

  2. And there at the top the LORD was standing and saying, “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you now lie.

  3. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

  4. Look, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

  5. When Jacob woke up, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was unaware of it.”

  6. And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven!”

  7. They cast lots for each gate, according to their families, young and old alike.

  8. The lot for the East Gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and the lot for the North Gate fell to him.

  9. The lot for the South Gate fell to Obed-edom, and the lot for the storehouses to his sons.

  10. The lots for the West Gate and the Shallecheth Gate on the ascending highway fell to Shuppim and Hosah. There were guards stationed at every watch.

  11. Each day there were six Levites on the east, four on the north, four on the south, and two pairs at the storehouse.

  12. As for the court on the west, there were four at the highway and two at the court.

  13. These were the divisions of the gatekeepers who were descendants of Korah and Merari.

  14. This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.

  15. Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, all people of Judah and Jerusalem who enter through these gates.

  16. Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.

  17. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate, to sanctify the people by His own blood.

  18. Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore.

  19. The city had a great and high wall with twelve gates inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve angels at the gates.
