  1. When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the little boy was crying. So she had compassion on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrew children.”

  2. Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call one of the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?”

  3. “Go ahead,” Pharaoh’s daughter told her. And the girl went and called the boy’s mother.

  4. Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages.” So the woman took the boy and nursed him.

  5. When the child had grown older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses and explained, “I drew him out of the water.”

  6. Whoever strikes his father or mother must surely be put to death.

  7. Whoever kidnaps another man must be put to death, whether he sells him or the man is found in his possession.

  8. Anyone who curses his father or mother must surely be put to death.

  9. You must not mistreat any widow or orphan.

  10. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to Me in distress, I will surely hear their cry.

  11. My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will become widows and your children will be fatherless.

  12. Then the LORD said to Moses,

  13. “Say to the Israelites, ‘A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be unclean for seven days, as she is during the days of her menstruation.

  14. And on the eighth day the flesh of the boy’s foreskin is to be circumcised.

  15. The woman shall continue in purification from her bleeding for thirty-three days. She must not touch anything sacred or go into the sanctuary until the days of her purification are complete.

  16. If, however, she gives birth to a daughter, the woman will be unclean for two weeks as she is during her menstruation. Then she must continue in purification from her bleeding for sixty-six days.

  17. When the days of her purification are complete, whether for a son or for a daughter, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering.

  18. And the priest will present them before the LORD and make atonement for her; and she shall be ceremonially cleansed from her flow of blood. This is the law for a woman giving birth, whether to a male or to a female.

  19. But if she cannot afford a lamb, she shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. Then the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’”

  20. Those of you who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away in their iniquity and will decay in the sins of their fathers.

  21. But if they will confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they have also walked in hostility toward Me—

  22. and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make amends for their iniquity,

  23. then I will remember My covenant with Jacob and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

  24. Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or despise them so as to destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.

  25. But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
