  1. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,

  2. from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;

  3. desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.

  4. for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.

  8. but shun foolish questionings, and genealogies, and strifes, and fightings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

  9. Be not carried away by divers and strange teachings: for it is good that the heart be established by grace; not by meats, wherein they that occupied themselves were not profited.

  10. If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.

  11. What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?

  12. knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers;

  13. For, uttering great swelling words of vanity, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by lasciviousness, those who are just escaping from them that live in error;
