  1. And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

  2. For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

  3. And Moses said, This shall be, when Jehovah shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that Jehovah heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah.

  4. I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God.

  5. And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

  6. How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

  7. Say unto them, As I live, saith Jehovah, surely as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

  8. your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, that have murmured against me,

  9. surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

  10. But your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected.

  11. But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

  12. And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your whoredoms, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.

  13. After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my alienation.

  14. I, Jehovah, have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

  15. And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

  16. even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah.

  17. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that thou mayest make an end of their murmurings against me, that they die not.

  18. Thus did Moses: as Jehovah commanded him, so did he.

  19. Are the consolations of God too small for thee, Even the word that is gentle toward thee?

  20. Why doth thy heart carry thee away? And why do thine eyes flash,

  21. That against God thou turnest thy spirit, And lettest words go out of thy mouth?

  22. Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just; For God is greater than man.

  23. Why dost thou strive against him, For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

  24. For he addeth rebellion unto his sin; He clappeth his hands among us, And multiplieth his words against God.

  25. Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness.
