Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants.
And when he had begun to take the account, one as brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents.
And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you tithe mint and anise and cummin and have left the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and faith. These things you ought to have done and not to leave those undone.
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
But he said: He that shewed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him: Go, and do thou in like manner.
I will arise and will go to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee.
I am not worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
And rising up, he came to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion and running to him fell upon his neck and kissed him.
He that exhorteth, in exhorting; he that giveth, with simplicity; he that ruleth, with carefulness; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
But if the enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink. For, doing this, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.
Be not overcome by evil: but overcome evil by good.
To him who is such a one, this rebuke is sufficient, which is given by many.
So that on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
Wherefore, I beseech you that you would confirm your charity towards him.
Put ye on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, the bowels of mercy, benignity, humility, modesty, patience:
Bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if any have a complaint against another. Even as the Lord hath forgiven you, so do you also.
For judgment without mercy to him that hath not done mercy. And mercy exalteth itself above judgment.
