  1. "'Do not steal from, defraud or lie to each other.

  2. Do not swear by my name falsely, which would be profaning the name of your God; I am ADONAI.

  3. "If a malicious witness comes forward and gives false testimony against someone,

  4. then both the men involved in the controversy are to stand before ADONAI, before the cohanim and the judges in office at the time.

  5. The judges are to investigate carefully. If they find that the witness is lying and has given false testimony against his brother,

  6. you are to do to him what he intended to do to his brother. In this way, you will put an end to such wickedness among you.

  7. Those who remain will hear about it, be afraid and no longer commit such wickedness among you.

  8. There are six things ADONAI hates, seven which he detests:

  9. a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

  10. a heart that plots wicked schemes, feet swift in running to do evil,

  11. a false witness who lies with every breath, and him who sows strife among brothers.

  12. Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of all the land; for [according to what is written] on one side, everyone who steals will be swept away; and [according to what is written] on the other side, everyone who swears will be swept away.

  13. 'I will release it,' says ADONAI-Tzva'ot, 'and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name; it will stay there inside the house and consume it completely, even its timbers and stones.'"

  14. We are aware that Torah is not for a person who is righteous, but for those who are heedless of Torah and rebellious, ungodly and sinful, wicked and worldly, for people who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers,

  15. the sexually immoral — both heterosexual and homosexual — slave dealers, liars, perjurers, and anyone who acts contrary to the sound teaching
