  1. And if men contend, and one smite the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keep his bed;

  2. if he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

  3. And if an ox gore a man or a woman to death, the ox shall be surely stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.

  4. But if the ox was wont to gore in time past, and it hath been testified to its owner, and he hath not kept it in, but it hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.

  5. If there be laid on him a ransom, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.

  6. Whether it have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

  7. If the ox gore a man-servant or a maid-servant, there shall be given unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

  8. And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein,

  9. the owner of the pit shall make it good; he shall give money unto the owner thereof, and the dead beast shall be his.

  10. And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

  11. If any one sin, and commit a trespass against Jehovah, and deal falsely with his neighbor in a matter of deposit, or of bargain, or of robbery, or have oppressed his neighbor,

  12. or have found that which was lost, and deal falsely therein, and swear to a lie; in any of all these things that a man doeth, sinning therein;

  13. then it shall be, if he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took by robbery, or the thing which he hath gotten by oppression, or the deposit which was committed to him, or the lost thing which he found,

  14. or any thing about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in full, and shall add the fifth part more thereto: unto him to whom it appertaineth shall he give it, in the day of his being found guilty.

  15. If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

  16. and lay shameful things to her charge, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came nigh to her, I found not in her the tokens of virginity;

  17. then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel’s virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate;

  18. and the damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;

  19. and, lo, he hath laid shameful things to her charge, saying, I found not in thy daughter the tokens of virginity; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity. And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.

  20. And the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him;

  21. and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

  22. If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, that is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

  23. then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he hath humbled her; he may not put her away all his days.
