  1. ¶ Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

  2. It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

  3. But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

  4. Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

  5. ¶ Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

  6. Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

  15. Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

  16. So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

  17. I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

  18. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

  19. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

  20. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

  21. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

  22. For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

  23. He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

  24. With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

  25. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
