  1. ¶ And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

  2. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

  3. ¶ Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

  4. ¶ And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

  5. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

  6. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

  7. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

  8. When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

  9. ¶ And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

  10. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

  11. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

  12. ¶ And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

  13. ¶ And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

  14. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

  15. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

  16. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

  17. ¶ And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.

  18. And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

  19. And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.

  20. Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.

  21. And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

  22. Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

  23. And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the LORD thy God.

  24. And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

  25. And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.
