  1. And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.

  10. And the serpent said to the woman: No, you shall not die the death.

  11. For God doth know that in what day soever you shall eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened: and you shall be as Gods, knowing good and evil.

  12. And the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and fair to the eyes, and delightful to behold: and she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave to her husband, who did eat.

  13. And he said to him: And who hath told thee that thou wast naked, but that thou hast eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat?

  14. And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

  15. I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.

  16. To the woman also he said: I will multiply thy sorrows, and thy conceptions: in sorrow shalt thou bring forth children, and thou shalt be under thy husband's power, and he shall have dominion over thee.

  17. And when he was near to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife: I know that thou art a beautiful woman:

  18. Abraham made haste into the tent to Sara, and said to her: Make haste, temper together three measures of flour, and make cakes upon the hearth.

  19. And when they had eaten, they said to him: Where is Sara thy wife? He answered: Lo she is in the tent.

  20. And she laughed secretly, saying: After I am grown old, and my lord is an old man, shall I give myself to pleasure?

  21. That I may make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that thou take not a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Chanaanites, among whom I dwell:

  22. But that thou go to my own country and kindred, and take a wife from thence for my son Isaac.

  23. And when he had made the camels lie down without the town, near a well of water, in the evening, at the time when women are wont to come out to draw water, he said:

  24. Behold, I stand nigh the spring of water, and the daughters of the inhabitants of this city will come out to draw water:

  25. He had not yet ended these words within himself, and behold Rebecca came out, the daughter of Bathuel, son of Melcha, wife to Nachor the brother of Abraham, having a pitcher on her shoulder:
