Verses on Venom of
They shall be consumed with famine, and birds shall devour them with a most bitter bite: I will send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the fury of creatures that trail upon the ground, and of serpents.
Their wine is the gall of dragons, and the venom of asps, which is incurable.
He shall suck the head of asps, and the viper's tongue shall kill him.
For behold they have caught my soul: the mighty have rushed in upon me:
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips.
Look not upon the wine when it is yellow, when the colour thereof shineth in the glass: it goeth in pleasantly,
But in the end, it will bite like a snake, and will spread abroad poison like a basilisk.
And he indeed, shaking off the beast into the fire, suffered no harm.
But they supposed that he would begin to swell up and that he would suddenly fall down and die. But expecting long and seeing that there came no harm to him, changing their minds, they said that he was a god.
