  1. For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

  2. Jehovah did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all peoples:

  3. but because Jehovah loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

  4. Know therefore that Jehovah thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations,

  5. Speak not thou in thy heart, after that Jehovah thy God hath thrust them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness Jehovah hath brought me in to possess this land; whereas for the wickedness of these nations Jehovah doth drive them out from before thee.

  6. Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thy heart, dost thou go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Jehovah thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may establish the word which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

  7. Know therefore, that Jehovah thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

  8. Can a man be profitable unto God? Surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself.

  9. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gainto him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

  10. Unless Jehovah had been my help, My soul had soon dwelt in silence.

  11. When I said, My foot slippeth; Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, held me up.

  12. In the multitude of my thoughts within me Thy comforts delight my soul.

  13. Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me.

  14. And he said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he spake unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

  15. No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day.

  16. It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.

  17. And I am no more in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we are.

  18. While I was with them, I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

  19. And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness,

  20. while thou stretchest forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of thy holy Servant Jesus.

  21. even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction;

  22. for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;

  23. being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

  24. For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.

  25. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die.
