  1. He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

  13. Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

  14. If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

  15. Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

  16. His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

  17. He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

  18. He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

  19. He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

  20. ¶ Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

  21. To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

  22. ¶ It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

  23. Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

  24. ¶ Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

  25. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
