Threads

Scripture linked to itself, 432,944 times

What you are seeing

The Bible as one line along the bottom, Genesis at the left and Revelation at the right. Each cross-reference is an arc from one verse to another. Blue arcs stay within a testament, and gold arcs join the Old to the New. The small gold tick marks Matthew 1:1.

How to read it

The full picture is exposed like a photograph, so dense regions glow without burying the faint long arcs. Old to New only keeps just the gold. Choose a book to see only the threads leaving it, drawn live.

Where the data comes from

OpenBible.info's cross-references, the same list the verse page and Reach use.

What not to read into it

Many arcs leaving a book does not make it more important. Long books have more verses to link from, and the links are the ones OpenBible.info's readers chose to record and vote on, so the density follows what readers noticed and says little about where Scripture puts its weight.

The arc form is not new. Chris Harrison and Christoph Römhild drew the Bible's cross-references this way in 2007, and this picture is in their debt.
