  1. Now when the seven years of plenty that had been in Egypt were passed:

  2. The seven years of scarcity, which Joseph had foretold, began to come: and the famine prevailed in the whole world, but there was bread in all the land of Egypt.

  3. And when there also they began to be famished, the people cried to Pharao, for food. And he said to them: Go to Joseph: and do all that he shall say to you.

  4. And the famine increased daily in all the land: and Joseph opened all the barns, and sold to the Egyptians: for the famine had oppressed them also.

  5. And I will break the pride of your stubbornness: and I will make to you the heaven above as iron, and the earth as brass.

  6. Your labour shall be spent in vain: the ground shall not bring forth her increase: nor the trees yield their fruit.

  7. If you walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you for your sins.

  8. And I will send in upon you the beasts of the field, to destroy you and your cattle, and make you few in number: and that your highways may be desolate.

  9. And if even so you will not amend, but will walk contrary to me:

  10. I also will walk contrary to you, and will strike you seven times for your sins.

  11. And I will bring in upon you the sword that shall avenge my covenant. And when you shall flee into the cities, I will send the pestilence in the midst of you. And you shall be delivered into the hands of your enemies,

  12. After I shall have broken the staff of your bread: so that ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and give it out by weight: and you shall eat, and shall not be filled,

  13. But if you will not for all this hearken to me, but will walk against me

  14. I will also go against you with opposite fury: and I will chastise you with seven plagues for your sins,

  15. So that you shall eat the flesh of your sons and of your daughters.

  16. Be the heaven, that is over thee, of brass: and the ground thou treadest on, of iron.

  17. The Lord give thee dust for rain upon thy land, and let ashes come down from heaven upon thee, till thou be consumed.

  18. Thou shalt cast much seed into the ground, and gather little: because the locusts shall consume all.

  19. Thou shalt plant a vineyard, and dig it, and shalt not drink the wine, nor gather any thing thereof: because it shall be wasted with worms.

  20. Thou shalt have olive trees in all thy borders, and shalt not be anointed with the oil: for the olives shall fall off and perish.

  21. Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, and shalt not enjoy them: because they shall be led into captivity.

  22. The blast shall consume all the trees and the fruits of thy ground.

  23. And thou shalt eat the fruit of thy womb, and the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, in the distress and extremity wherewith thy enemy shall oppress thee.

  24. The man that is nice among you, and very delicate, shall envy his own brother, and his wife, that lieth in his bosom,

  25. So that he will not give them of the flesh of his children, which he shall eat: because he hath nothing else in the siege and the want, wherewith thy enemies shall distress thee within all thy gates.
